# Where Amp stores your threads

> Amp, Sourcegraph's coding agent, stores every thread on its servers with a URL, not on your disk. How to list, search, export and delete Amp threads.

Source: https://groundedby.com/agents/amp (updated 2026-10-29)

Amp works differently from the other agents here: **threads live on Amp's servers**, not on your machine. Every thread has a URL at `ampcode.com/threads/T-<id>`.

## What is local

Only credentials and settings: `~/.local/share/amp/secrets.json` and `~/.config/amp/settings.json`. Amp's docs mention a local thread-history cache, but not where it is.

## Manage threads

```bash
amp threads list
amp threads search <query>
amp threads continue <id>
amp threads share <id>
amp threads export <id>
amp threads markdown <id>
amp threads archive <id>
amp threads delete <id>
```

A thread can be private, shared with a workspace or group, or unlisted. Deleted threads are purged within 30 days.

## Privacy notes

Amp stores threads in the US, with no self-hosted option. Check a thread's visibility before you paste anything sensitive.

The groundedby [evaluator](/evaluate) reads local files only, so it cannot count Amp threads.

## Questions

**Does Amp keep threads on my computer?**

No. Amp stores threads on its servers, and every thread has a URL. Local files hold only credentials and settings.

**How do I export an Amp thread?**

amp threads export, or amp threads markdown for a Markdown copy. The thread's creator can export JSON.
