# Where Continue stored your chat sessions

> Continue is no longer maintained, and its sessions remain as JSON files in ~/.continue/sessions. Where to find them and how to export them before you move on.

Continue is no longer maintained: its repository is read-only and its final releases came out in June 2026. If you used it, your history is still on disk.

## Where the files are

```text
~/.continue/
├── sessions.json            # index of sessions
└── sessions/
    └── <sessionId>.json     # one file per session
```

On Windows: `%USERPROFILE%\.continue\sessions`. `CONTINUE_GLOBAL_DIR` moves it. The `cn` CLI uses the same folder.

Each session file holds a `sessionId`, `title`, `workspaceDirectory`, the `history` of messages with context items and tool call states, and `usage` with tokens and cost.

## Keep it before you move on

- The History page has **Save Chat as Markdown** for single chats.
- Copy the whole `~/.continue/sessions` folder to keep everything.
- With the CLI: `cn ls`, `cn --resume`, `cn --fork <id>`.

## Questions

**Is Continue still maintained?**

No. The repository is read-only and the last releases came out in June 2026. Your sessions remain on disk in ~/.continue/sessions.

**How do I save Continue chats before switching tools?**

Use "Save Chat as Markdown" on the History page, or copy ~/.continue/sessions, which holds every session as JSON.
